Alvaro Morata landed in Milan welcomed by the love of the fans. The Spaniard, who spent the night at the “Milanello” training center, performed the first physical tests and then spoke at a press conference from “Casa Milan”. Below are all the statements from the new number 7 of “The Devil”.
What are the feelings in these moments?
Thank you to everyone who influenced my transfer here. I had several chances to return to Italy in the last few years, but once I spoke to Zlatan and the coach there was nothing left to think about. No club has ever loved me so much. I felt like I was with Milan during the European Championship.
Why this choice?
I need confidence and to be myself. I don’t mind if one day someone comes and says to me: “You are playing like m…” The coach, the club and Ibra have shown me that they believe in me. It’s hard to find a club with this setup and I can’t wait to get on the pitch. I can’t promise titles, but I will run like a dog and help my teammates. Ultimately, a leader pushes his teammates to the max.
Did the idea of Milan exist in the past? Who inspires you from Milan?
Ibra is one of my biggest idols, I asked everything through my friends. It makes me dream of being around him. These weeks I have spoken with Kaka, Shevchenko, Pato and David Beckham who told me that I can see something different in Milan. A large part of football history has been written here
You are coming off the best season as a scorer even in Europe. What do you expect from a personal point of view?
I win you. I don’t care about scoring 50 or 60 goals. There are players who score millions of goals but then earn nothing. We have to win. We are in a team game and there are many strong players in this team. When I entered “Milanello” I understood what the atmosphere was like and I assure you that it can only get better. But scoring goals is not what worries me. I want to bring the second star and make history. I know that these are the last years of my career, but I am convinced that they will be the best.
So Morata’s career best?
No doubt. It’s not my character normally, but I’m very happy and at Milan they will see that it was a good idea to take me.
What championship do you find?
A championship that has grown a lot, every year it is more beautiful to see. Ten years ago it was very different, more tactical and less goals. Now every team is well prepared and well trained.
How do you feel that you will meet Juventus again, but this time as a rival?
I am grateful to that club and thank them for what they have done for me. Friends are friends, but to go to dinner, we say goodbye after the games: sometimes not because you are upset because you lost. Now I am a Milan player and for me it is another adventure.
Is this Milan similar to Spain?
There are very similar players. There are some who could become among the best in the world, if they aren’t already. The coach is very similar to the idea of the game. The important thing for me is to fit in well with the group and my teammates will understand who I am. I don’t want goals and stardom, I want to win.
What did Teo Hernandez tell you about Milan?
I’ve always had a great relationship with Theron: a fun, outgoing person. I was on vacation with him for 2-3 days. I hope he puts gas in the engine, because it is essential for this team. He too can make the final leap in quality as he has the characteristics and potential to be the best defender in the world and I will try to remind him of that every morning.
What is your opinion about Fonseka and have you spoken to Alegr?
I spoke with the coach several times, even at length. We didn’t need more information to make the decision. His idea is very similar to what I like and I know I can give my best. I have not spoken to Alegr, when I see him it will be a pleasure because he has always helped me a lot.
How will the return match against Juventus be?
This is part of football. If you go to a theater and what you see is not beautiful… Cheers are normal when you deserve them, insults from opposing fans are also normal. I have never gone to a place in Italy and not encountered disrespect when I was with my family.
How much will Milan be able to help you and get you excited about football again?
If I’m here, I’m honest, that’s why. An emotion called Milan, called Ibrahimovic. I could go get money or rest. I’m in the perfect place, at the perfect age, so I say I still have 5 or 6 years to do well and win
How much of a burden is the legacy of number 7 and the fact that you succeed Zhiru?
I don’t think about weight since I set foot in Milan. I have been a friend of Zhiru since my Chelsea days and I had the opportunity to learn from him and share things with him. When it was almost all over, Ibra sent me a video and I ran into all the goals from the best players, many of whom played for Milan.
Can your experience be an additional factor for Milan and the dressing rooms?
I want to win and I know how to do it. The last European Championship told us that we were too young and that it was impossible: in the end we have to believe in it and work hard. In this way you can to achieve success everywhere. That’s why I look forward to joining the group and reminding everyone of their worth, every morning. I like to see others working, dreaming, and especially happy.
What kind of team makes Morata play well?
I think that with the quality that is in this group, we should take the breath away from the other teams. If we apply pressure with ten players, I think it will be very difficult for the others. When you don’t have possession of the ball you have to play the role of worker.
Are you the player every coach would love to coach?
I am not a selfish person. I always bring a positive dynamic. I’m a central striker, but when I’m replaced I’m the first to hug the friend who takes my place on the field. I love winning and enjoying the moment with the teammates I work with every day. I think that with such a spirit we can create a family.
Have you seen the Comrade at all?
I met him. I have also seen his matches. He scored a lot more than I did when I was in Real’s youth team. I just want to help him, teach him to grow up. It could be the future, or maybe the present, in football you never know. Maybe I’ll sit on the bench for it. I just want to help my friends as I am someone who jokes around with young people but also gets angry if they don’t do things right.
What are seasonal objectives?
I am in Milan and there is no limit for anything. We need to win as many games as possible and I want to help in any way I can. With goals, or simply more advice, the coach will decide. It is important that we all work in one direction and be ready when needed. I really want to give joy to the fans and to all those who believed in me, doing everything possible to bring me to this great club like Milan.
